PTA Board Meeting
April 17,2008
The meeting was called to order at 6:34 PM and presided over by co-President Jennifer Moran.
Those in attendance were Barbara Bond, Becky Law, Elizabeth Hope, Grey Seate, Lisa McIntosh, Joanne Vitek Morris, Lisa Holmes, Felecia Locklear, Lee Jordan, Chris Gergle, Suzette Pittman, Ashley Carver, Kim Dittmann, Christine Belo, Pauline Byron, Courtney Black, Michelle Weiland, Jennifer Moran, Hunter Rogers, Graham Satisky, and Susan Dubach.
President’s Report - Jennifer Moran
- Thanks to Suzanne Wood, Lisa McIntosh, Buzz Hardy, Steve Beck, and all those who helped put on a smooth, organized variety show. Thanks to Ann Holland Hughes for giving of her time to help the variety show.
- There are some silent auction items that were not picked up and need to be taken out of the library storage room.
- New committee members to be slated. All VP’s need to check with current committee chairs to see if they are willing to serve next year.
- Please keep Jennifer Moran and Hunter Rogers as recepients when corresponding by email.
- The Brooks PTA has been recognized by the NCPTA as the top 23rd PTA in the state. April 30 - Wake County PTA award ceremony. Marilee Moore will present Brook’s PTA yearly efforts at the ceremony. All VP’s please turn in a visual item for her to present.
Principal’s Report- Felecia Locklear
- Katie Sabino thanks the PTA for all the names turned in for Community Reads volunteers. We have enough volunteers.
- Tuesday, April 21 a group from Florida will be visiting Brooks to learn about our magnet program.
- 97 additional magnet seats have been offered to students.
- May 15 - transfer forms available. Fourth and fifth graders in reassigned nodes may return to Brooks but must fill out a transfer form.
Treasurer’s Report - Michelle Weiland
- New check request forms are being created.
- All VP’s will be given forms to help assist them when preparing budget requests for next year.
Liaison Report -Ashley Craver
- Fifth graders thank the PTA for helping to fund the field trip to Haw River, Writer in Residence, and for the recycle bins for earth week. All students enjoyed the marionette cultural arts program last week.
- Brooks staff is preparing for the volunteer breakfast for May 9.
Volunteers - Joanne Vitek Morris
- Night at the Museum - April 24. Chick -fil- A will provide dinner.
Ways and Means - Kim Dittmann
- Monday, May 5 - Chick- Fil- A night. All students encouraged to wear their Brooks t-shirts.
- Monday, April 20 - last boxtop sheet to go home.
- Christine Belo reported that the book fair needs volunteers. Sign up sheet passed.
- Pauline Byron reported that the totals were not in for Kid’s Art but that there is a 33% profit margin.
Programs - Lisa McIntosh
- Many thanks to all who helped with the variety show. All the children were very proud of their performances.
- May 8th - Kindergarten open house and May 20 magnet open house for new magnet students. All school spirit wear and magnets will be available.
Publicity - Chris Gergle
- Yearbook- Courtney Black - the yearbook is done. Online sales will continue until May 15 for $17. They will be $20 after May 15.
- The Buzz will go out May 5th.
Hospitality - Grey Seate
- Earth week - there will be seminars about recycling, cleaning of school grounds, and new recycle bins available for plastics.
- 5th grade celebration planning continues and is going well.
- Spring Picnic - Thursday, May 29 6-8pm. Lumpy’s ice cream, a DJ and a hotdog vendor will be there.
- Teacher Appreciation - Becky Law -The teacher appreciation committee has a full week of activities/food for teachers. Manicures, massages, meals sent home, pizza and sub tastings, morning muffins, and a staff luncheon are all events to take place.
New Business
- The budget committee will be meeting in the next few weeks to plan next year’s budget.
- Graham Satisky - To honor the fifth grade class, the first graduating class of the magnet program at Brooks, the PTA will hold a reception before the next PTA meeting from 6-6:30 in the library for fifth grade parents in appreciation for all they have done for our school.
